The London Power Tunnels (LPT) scheme is a cable replacement project in the South of London. Package two (LPT2) includes tunnel and shaft construction civils, and installation of cable brackets and monorail for the cable install.

Richter began working for its client, Hochtief Murphy JV (HMJV) in May 2020 after a successful tender to provide a full enabling works design package for the construction site at New Cross, situated around 2no. shafts. The deliverables included design and detailing of all site roads, platforms, slabs and working areas within the site boundary, a fully retained muck storage area for stockpiling soils excavated from the shafts and drainage to accommodate not only the welfare facilities but also the management of groundwater from the stockpiled soils.

A great collaborative working relationship was quickly developed, and having successfully delivered the package of temporary works across the initial 5no. briefs, at the time of writing, Richter has completed in excess of 90 no. temporary works design briefs across sites at New Cross, Kings Avenue, Hurst, Bengeworth Road and Crayford.

Large civil engineering projects like LPT align perfectly with the expertise and experience across Richter's regional offices. Its dedicated teams have delivered a high standard of designs across a broad spectrum of temporary works including raised walkways, shaft service supports, foundations for plant, cabins, stairs, silos, large conveyors and gantry cranes, roads, ramps, rebar stability checks, rebar detailing for shaft bases, protections slabs and design/checking of numerous slope and excavation supports.

Richter continues with this kind of collaborative working relationship right up until project completion, and our teams look forward to working with the client and supply chain again on upcoming future projects.
