In association with Leeds College of Building, lcb.ac.uk/ our office in Huddersfield has a very exciting opportunity for two Apprentice Civil Engineers to join the team.

Richter’s relationship with the college has been a very successful one since our Huddersfield office Director Colin Harwood first approached them back in 2018. When we asked Colin why he thought the relationship worked so well, this is what he had to say:

“I have observed our current Apprentice Engineers and they have developed very quickly with their capability and understanding of the built environment since starting their training with Leeds College of Building. All the skills and knowledge developed at college provides a fantastic foundation for our valued apprentices. We are extremely fortunate to be located closely to the UK’s only college that specifically delivers construction related courses to prospective tradesmen and professionals.”

Many of the team you will work alongside have been in your position, others have landed their dream job with Richter through what some may call a less conventional route. Will Cowie, one of Richter’s Apprentice Engineers based from the Huddersfield office tells us his story:

“My path into Engineering would not be considered a traditional one, and at 35 years old it was a bold move for me and a big decision to make. Following redundancy from my previous role in Tendering I began my apprenticeship with Leeds College of Building in 2020, the team there helped me secure my position as Apprentice Engineer with Richter. Combining on the job learning and the academic side really has been invaluable. I’m able to utilise the wealth of knowledge and experience both at college and in work. I am currently working on a large scheme for one of our biggest clients, taking lead on the temporary works required for a haul road and temporary level crossing as well as liaising with the client to fully understand their requirements and site restraints.

Following completion of my apprenticeship I aim to have the knowledge and attributes to work towards achieving an EngTech professional qualification through the Institution for Civil Engineers (ICE). This really has been the best career move I could have made.”

Richter is looking for students with five GCSEs at grades C/4 or above (or equivalent) including Maths and English to apply.

Working towards a Level 3 Civil Engineering Technician apprenticeship standard, and under the supervision and guidance of our experienced team, you will develop knowledge of construction techniques and start producing AutoCAD drawings for ongoing projects.

The deadline for applications is 22nd April 2021.
