The Next Generation

Huddersfield recruit the next generation of Civil Engineers.

Following a recruitment drive in April of this year, Colin Harwood CEng MICE, Director of Richter's Huddersfield office, is delighted to announce not one, but four apprentice engineers have joined the team today. The high quality of applicants was outstanding this year, and it was not possible to narrow the prospective candidates down to one. Each successful candidate following interview clearly connected with our values and behaviours, therefore, as a business it was clear we had to proceed with all four.

Each of the apprentices joining the Richter Group will receive their academic training from Leeds College of Building, lcb.ac.uk. Colin tells us how Richter’s relationship with the college has always been a very successful one since he first approached them back in 2018:

“I have observed our current apprentice engineers and they have developed very quickly with their capability and understanding of the built environment since starting their training with Leeds College of Building. All the skills and knowledge developed at college, provides a fantastic foundation for our valued apprentices. We are extremely fortunate to be located closely to the UK’s only college that specifically delivers construction related courses to prospective tradesmen and professionals.”

Our new apprentices will work alongside our experienced team, some of whom have started their career in a similar way, appreciating the position they are in.

The Richter apprentices will be working towards Level 3 and Level 4 Civil Engineering Technician apprenticeship standards. Supplemented with the supervision and guidance of our team, they will develop knowledge of construction techniques and start producing Revit models and technical drawings for large schemes currently ongoing and located in the North West of England.

It gives us great pleasure to welcome, Alexandra Gallagher-Wild, Reece McDermondy, Kieran Rennison and Tejiri Sinclair to Richter (pictured below from the left).

Roger Tice CEng FICE, Group Managing Director said:

"I was once a trainee myself, cutting my teeth on a drawing board straight from school. Trainee's are something I hold in high regard and it is very rewarding to see them progress into senior roles and to take up positions elsewhere to broaden experiences and to gain knowledge whilst obtaining the essential academic base to enable them to become chartered engineers in time. It is our pleasure to offer roles to these four candidates and we look forward to listening to their ideas for business improvement.

We have a number of trainees across the Group at various stages of learning and we will be bringing them together routinely, such that they may continue to learn from each other as well as their peers. There is a shortage of skilled all round temporary works engineers in the industry and it gives us great pleasure to work with up and coming talent so that we can inspire each of them to work within our specialist field of engineering."

We wish you all the very best for your future in the construction and civil engineering industry.
